Worry and Stress

Picture

How does excess worry and stress affect my brain?

Today's social climate, and the ongoing stresses of life impact our bodies every second of the day. The body can be overwhelmed and our brainwaves can become dysregulated. The most common reason this happens is as a result of over-stimulation. These abnormal waves are often found in people suffering from excessive worry as a response to over-stimulation. Neurofeedback has been shown to help normalize those brainwaves.

There Is Another Option

Medications aren’t actually correcting the problem, they are unable to monitor your brain function and know if you need more or less of key neurotransmitters.

How is Excess Worry Usually Treated?

The standard treatment is the prescription of Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), otherwise known as Anti-Depressants. These drugs stimulate the production of serotonin- the “feel-good” neurotransmitter. In the short term, these are effective at helping the patient “feel better” but they don’t change the root problem.

Problems With Medication

Medications can be effective at providing short term relief, but they do not address the underlying condition of brainwave imbalance. The medications can actually cause abnormal brainwave patterns, which can lead to greater symptoms causing a vicious cycle.

How Can Neurofeedback Help?

Neurofeedback is a guided exercise for the brain that has been shown to help regulate brainwaves. Neurofeedback is a learning modality designed to retrain the brain to correct abnormal brainwave patterns.

How Can Neurofeedback Help Me?

The goal of neurofeedback is to train the brain to transform an unhealthy, abnormal brainwave pattern into a normal, healthy, organized one. In doing this, the brain becomes more stable and is able to operate better and more efficiently.
